The government polytechnic college Kottayam was established in 1960, under the technical education Department Kerala. The institution has matured into one of the premier technical education institutions in the state, offering 3-year diploma courses in six disciplines and many other short-term courses.

The campus is situated in a picturesque location at Nattakom, by the side of MC road, the artery of Kerala, connecting Thiruvanthapuram and angamaly, the south and north ends of erstwhile Travancore, just 4 Kms south of Kottayam - the land of lakes, Latex and letters. The lush green campus in a sprawling 16 acres, houses aesthetically built buildings with well-furnished classrooms, lecture halls, seminar hall, workshops, laboratories, hostels and canteen facilities. The campus provides a calm and serene atmosphere suited for intense study and sustained hard work, while remaining easily reachable.
